FAQ

Can I rename a label directly?

Jira has no rename-label API, so LabelSafe edits each matching issue: it adds the new label and removes the old one, in a background job.

Why is the count approximate, and why do Bug and bug show the same number?

Counts use Jira's approximate count and Jira's label search is case-insensitive. Edits are exact: only the exact label string changes.

Does the preview show every issue?

No. It shows the JQL, the approximate count and a sample of up to 20 issues.

My job paused. Is something wrong?

Jobs pause after about 5,000 updated or 50,000 examined issues, or after repeated Jira rate limits or errors. Open Activity and click Resume.

Some issues were skipped.

The job runs as the app. Issues the app can't edit (for example, issue security) are skipped and not included in undo.

Will watchers get emails?

They may. Every label edit asks Jira not to notify (notifyUsers=false), but that isn't a promise nobody is emailed: Jira honors the flag only when the app can administer the project, and Activity shows the outcome (requested, ignored, rejected or unknown). In every case, watchers may still be emailed.

What does undo do?

It adds back labels the job removed and removes labels it added. It doesn't restore a full copy of the labels field, so a later change by someone else can be affected. Each job can be undone once.

How long is history kept?

The newest 30 jobs. Older finished jobs are deleted automatically. A Jira administrator can delete job history from Activity → Clear history (type clear to confirm). It deletes all job records in the audit list, their undo pages and claims; it doesn't change labels on issues or settings, and it's refused while any job is queued, running or undoing. After clearing, those jobs can no longer be undone.

What works without an active license?

With an inactive license, LabelSafe still lists labels, scans for duplicates, shows previews and Activity, and the Last comment panel works; starting a change, undo, resume, retry, Clear history and saving settings are blocked until the license is active again.

Can project admins use it?

Only after a Jira admin turns on Allow project admins (off by default), and only in their project.

What is the Last comment panel?

An issue panel showing the newest comment (up to 280 characters) you're allowed to see. It isn't a column in the issue navigator.

Where is my data? Do you see it?

Only settings and job records, in Atlassian Forge storage in your Jira's residency location. No issue content is copied, no calls leave Atlassian, and we can't see your data.

What happens if I uninstall?

The app can't read its data; Atlassian deletes it after its retention window (28 days at the time of writing). Labels already changed stay changed.
